Around 30 women organizations gathered to celebrate National Women’s Day on March 8, 2018. LGU Tacurong and the City Council for the Development of Women (CDW) organized the activity that also served as the kick-off of the National Women’s Month.
The day started with a motorcade and a float parade/contest.
Dr. Melissa Marie Bautista delivered a talk on women empowerment, marriage, and parenting. “Ipagmalaki nating babae tayo. Mayroon tayong halaga..at mga kakayahan,” said Bautista.
Councilor Charito Collado and CDW Chairperson Jocelyn Panizales expressed their gratitude for the active involvement of the public and private organizations.
On March 23, women groups will again converge for the Women’s Congress.
LGU GAD CODE
Bautista lauded LGU Tacurong for the initiative to improve its Gender and Development (GAD) Code: “Dito sa Tacurong, bawat babae ay pinapahalagahan.”
According to Councilor Psyche Sucaldito, author of the Code, Bautista serves as a consultant of the LGU GAD Team in strengthening the said legislation.
The LGU GAD Code is a local legislation that spells out the City’s Government’s objective in safeguarding women from gender disparities, inequities that deprive them of equal opportunities to enjoy rights and fundamental freedom.
Also, the LGU has a GAD Focal Point System that ensures gender-sensitive governance.
