Filling the void created by the untimely passing of Mayor Angelo ‘Roncal’ Montilla, incumbent Vice Mayor Lino Montilla yesterday took his oath of office as the new mayor of Tacurong City. Late Mayor Angelo Montilla passed away on Sunday, June 6, after he succumbed to COVID-19. Vice Mayor Montilla’s assumption to mayoralty post is in consonance with Section 44 of Local Government Code stating that “if a permanent vacancy occurs in the office of the governor or mayor, the vice governor or vice mayor concerned shall become the governor or mayor.” Montilla took his oath of office before Punong Barangay Maria Rhodora Pauya and witnessed by City Local Government Operations Officer Victoria Dolido. Meanwhile, citing the same provision of Section 44, Sangguning Panlungsod Member Lalaine Montilla, being the councilor with the highest number of votes in the 2019 elections, subsequently took her oath of office as the new vice mayor.
