Ten barangay councilors emerged as Most Functional Violence Against Women (VAW) Desk In-Charge in this year’s National Women’s Month culmination in the city, March 30, 2021, were honored for their responsiveness in acting upon women abuse and in advocating women empowerment in their areas of jurisdiction.

Conferred by the City of Tacurong Council for the Development of Women (CTCDW) at Notre Dame of Tacurong College, Evelyn Camendan of Brgy. Buenaflor ranked 1st among other nominees from the twenty barangays of Tacurong. Meanwhile, Luisa Acosta of Brgy. San Pablo and Gina Espuertas of Brgy. New Isabela came in 2nd and 3rd places.

The fourth to tenth places were also respectively garnered by Cherry Tolentino of Brgy. Upper Katungal, Rohaila Gapor of Brgy. Calean, Leah Ferrer of Brgy. New Carmen, Elisa Godoy of Brgy. San Antonio, Ellyn Casipe of Brgy. Baras, Analyn Sidon of Brgy. Kalandagan, and Jocelyn Puedan of Brgy. New Lagao.

Each of the Top 10 awardees took home a plaque of recognition, a sack of rice, a personalized mug, and cash prizes of varying amount from P5,500 to P10,000 depending on the rank while a certificate of participation and a consolation prize of P2,000 were each given to non-winning brgy. councilors.

City Mayor Angelo O. Montilla’s support on this celebration was made apparent through City Councilor David Salazar who imparted various bible verses on what empowered women should be, and he also stressed the city government’s openness to create legislations that could intensify women’s campaign for gender equality.

Aside from their input and guidance, City First Lady and CTCDW Honorary Adviser Cora Montilla, as well as City Councilor and CTCDW Honorary Chairperson Lalaine Montilla, also sponsored assistance in the form of mugs raffled in the program.

Further, CTCDW also recognized the beauty salons and establishments in the city that supported the authored ordinance of Councilor Lalaine, Ordinance No. 030-2020, urging a 10% discount every first week of International Women’s Month Celebration granted to every female customer of these beauty parlors.

The program also launched the Search for Women Achievers Award – Frontliner Edition as adjacent to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

City Councilor Geronimo Arzagon, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Elenita Saavedra, and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Eufemia Robles also graced the activity along with the CTCDW officers, barangay officials, and awardees’ families. (DEC, LGU-TacInformation)
