Tacurong drug surrenderers graduate from community-based rehab

LGU Tacurong and Nuestra Señora dela Candelaria Parish (NSDC) proved their solid partnership once again through the rehabilitation and reintegration of the fourth batch of drug surrenders in Tacurong City.

On January 11, thirty seven (37) drug surrenderees, or Empowered Brethrens as they are referred to under the program, graduated from the Tabang Tatap para sa Pagbag-o, Paglaum kag Pagtuon (TaTaP3) Program at the Cardinal Orlando Quevedo Gymnasium. The graduates are residents of Barangays Rajah Muda, Baras, Griño, Buenaflor, San Pablo, and San Antonio.

Rev. Fr. Zaldy Robles, DCC led the facilitation of the activity together with the entire TaTaP3 team composed of personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office, DSWD, Tacurong PNP, DOH, DepEd and DILG.

From October 2018 until graduation, the Empowered Brethrens have undergone a 5-day live in preliminary rehabilitation and four live out sessions thereafter.

During graduation, City Mayor Lina O. Montilla was present to personally congratulate the Empowered Brethrens and she was accompanied by Mr. Kadz Sero, DILG Operations Officer, PSUPT JOEFEL SIASON, COP of Tacurong PNP, COL EFREN BALUYOT of JTF Talakudong, and the different Punong Barangays of the city.

Finally, to further help them reintegrate with the community, the LGU and DOLE will provide livelihood assistance to qualified Empowered Brethrens composed of livelihood starter kits worth Php20,000 each.

Tacurong City Peace & Order Council and Anti-Drug Abuse Council hold joint meeting

The City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council held a joint meeting on August 26, 2016, at the CDRRMC building.

Presided by City Mayor Lina O. Montilla, who also serves as chairwoman of both councils, the meeting was attended by the council members and stakeholders including the different LGU offices, the Sangguniang Panlungsod, barangay captains and officials, civil society organizations, Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Tacurong City PNP, BFP, BJMP, JTF Talakudong, and PDEA among others.

The business of the day included the current peace & order situation of the city, which was reported to be peaceful, and public safety updates by the Tacurong PNP. The BFP, BJMP, JTF Talakudong and 601st Brigade, and the PDEA also reported on each of their organization’s accomplishments in the last quarter.

The Tacurong PNP also updated the council on their on-going anti-drug campaign through Project Double Barrel, which includes Project Tokhang and Project HVT/LVT, and their Barangay Drug Clearing Operation. With a 261 baseline, the Tacurong PNP has so far accomplished 60.54% as of July 2016.

The PNP also discussed updates on their traffic management plan. A total of Php576,500 were collected from traffic violations from January 2016 to June 2016. (Yen Robles, LGU-Tacurong Information)
