PDEA, LGU bat for drug-free workplaces in Tacurong

More than 30 owners and representatives of establishments based in Tacurong City attended the one-day advocacy program of the government aiming to promote a drug-free workplace held today at the CDRRM Operations Center.

Participants came from hotels, bars, restaurants, subdivisions, condominiums, and warehouses operating within the city.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 12 spearheaded the activity in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacurong.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Philippine National Police (PNP) also graced the event.

The conduct of advocacy program is in compliance with RA 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 as well as the DOLE Department Order 53-03, Series of 2003 that provides guidelines for implementation of Drug-Free Workplace Policies and Programs for Private Sector.

Under DO 53-03, establishments need to conduct mandatory drug testing for their new hires as well as random drug testing for employees.

Lectures on various topics were presented by PDEA officers and agents including presentations on how to detect illegal drugs, laboratories, concealment methods and clandestine operations, and salient features of RA 9165.

In his message, Mayor Angelo Montilla urged the employers to abide by the guidelines of DO 53-03 and to seriously keep a drug-free establishment.

DOLE Sultan Kudarat Director Mary Jane Hoksuan and Pol. Lt. Col. Rey Egos echoed the statement of Mayor Montilla adding that this advocacy is in line with their mandates of promoting the welfare of workers as well as keeping order in the workplace.

PDEA Regional Director Naravy Duquiatan conveyed her gratitude to the support of stakeholders in the endeavor.

City Peace and Order Council Quarterly Meeting, August 8, 2019

The City Peace and Order Council (CPOC), chaired by City Mayor Angelo ‘Roncal’ O. Montilla, convened on August 8, 2019 at the CDRRMC building. The council members in attendance included the Punong Barangays, representatives from the PNP, PDEA, JTF Talakudong, 33rd IB, BFP, BJMP, heads of LGU offices, and other public and private entities in the city.

Some of the issues discussed during the meeting included the consideration of the council to declare as Persona Non Grata the left wing rebel groups as pointed out in DILG Memorandum Circular 2018 – 211 and Executive Order No. 70; public roads clearing as per presidential directive during the 4th State of the Nation Address and as emphasized under DILG Memorandum Circular 2019 – 211; and the formal dissolution of the Civilian Volunteers Organization and recognition of the barangay tanod and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) as the only civilian peacekeeping forces allowed in the barangays as provided in the Local Government Code of 1991.

“If we do not follow these directives, we will be answerable to the President,” explained Montilla. “Let us do our jobs well.” The council is set to reconvene on August 16.(YMR, LGUTac-Info)

Students in Region 12 learn disaster resilience

Hundreds of students from eight (8) schools divisions in SOCCSKSARGEN learned the basics of disaster risk reduction management during the School-based Disaster Resilience Caravan organized by the Office of the Civil Defense – Region XII (OCD 12) and hosted by the City of Tacurong on July 11, 2019 at the Notre Dame of Tacurong College Gymnasium.

The caravan was in line with the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month and has a theme “Kahandaan sa Sakuna at Peligro Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago”. Part of the caravan is a lecture and demo activity where Basic Concepts of First Aid were given by the Philippine Red Cross – Tacurong City Chapter; Fire Safety by the Bureau of Fire Protection; Earthquake Preparedness by PHIVOLCS General Santos City Station; and, Bomb Awareness by the Joint Task Force Talakudong.

Participating agencies, which included the Tacurong City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center, OCD 12, PHIVOLCS, the City Schools Division of Tacurong, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center, the Philippine Red Cross, JTF Talakudong, and BFP– also built exhibits at the venue where they were able to indulge students with demonstrations.

The participating schools divisions were that of Tacurong City, Koronadal City, Saranggani Province, South Cotabato Province, General Santos City, Sultan Kudarat Province, Kidapawan City, and Cotabato City. (YMR, LGUTac-Info)

Tacurong Bird Fest. 2019 Preparation

LGU Tacurong revs up its preparation for the upcoming Tacurong Bird Festival on June 21- 22, 2019.Joining the meeting this afternoon are the different committees involved in the preparation of festival activities as well as the Tacurong PNP, Regional Mobile Force Batalion 12, EOD, CVOs, and JTF Talakudong among others for the festival security.

The City of Tacurong celebrated the 121st Araw ng Kalayaan with a wreath-laying ceremony and 21- gun salute at the Jose Rizal Monument at the Tacurong City Hall compound. This year’s host is Tacurong City PNP led by PSUPT JOEFEL SIASON and honoree is City Mayor Lina O. Montilla.

The ceremonial guards were personnel from the Tacurong PNP while the gun salute was provided by the men of Joint Task Force Talakudong.
