Mayor Montilla campaigns for support on National ID System in census meeting

“National ID System is necessary for us to have an orderly and easier government and private transactions,” conveyed City Mayor Angelo O. Montilla during the City Census Coordinating Board (CCCB) meeting with the Philippine Statistics Authority – Sultan Kudarat (PSA-SK), March 10, 2021, in support of the Philippine ID System (PhilSys ID) or National ID System implementation.

PhilSys ID eyes to provide a single national identification system and a valid authentication of identity for Filipino citizens and resident aliens to attain a smooth delivery of government services especially to low-income citizens of the nation.

Herlita G. Caraan, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-SK, stressed that Philsys ID is a foundational ID meant for multi-purpose dealings such as civil registrations and is not meant to replace existing functional IDs such as passports and driver’s license that serve specific purposes to different institutions.

The CCCB meeting at the Tacurong City Cultural and Sports Center was carried out for PSA-SK to update the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacurong on the conduct of 2020 Census on Population and Housing (2020 CPH) and the outcome of PhilSys ID Step 1/Pre-registration.

The complete and final number of 2020 CPH is yet to be submitted and verified for official proclamation by President Rodrigo Duterte in June 2021.

Meanwhile, the house-to-house pre-registration of PhilSys ID that started last January 18, 2021, already logged 15,559 registrants from the nine priority barangays in Tacurong.

With the completion of the PhilSys Pre-registration, PSA-SK is on track to expand their target area in Tacurong and additional resident participation is encouraged to attain utmost success of the program.

The Step 2/Registration for PhilSys ID will commence on May 17, 2021 which will entail the capturing of front-facing photograph, full set of fingerprints, and iris scan of concerned individuals. (DEC, LGU-TacInformation)
