After its hiatus in 2017, the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) made a resurgence this 2021 in Tacurong, catering to the disadvantaged and out-of-school youths from the 20 barangays of the city in envisioning them to become capacitated and productive members of the society.
To actualize this goal, LGU-Tacurong, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, enforced a 3-day Orientation as well as a Leadership and Planning at Isla Jardin Del Mar, Sarangani on November 8-10, 2021.
Forty PYAP officers – 2 from each barangay of Tacurong – were given talks about Leadership and Mindfulness for the Youth complemented by a discussion on Adolescent Reproductive Health administered by Population Program Officer Judith Janiola of General Santos City.
Further, the Leadership Training and Workshop was carried out by Punong Barangay Jose Juaren Javier of New Isabela. Meanwhile, the Action Planning was delivered through the direction of the City Planning and Development Coordinator Amelia Bochorno.
As a means of lifting the PYAP members’ spirits to move forward, 3 PYAP alumni – Punong Barangay Joan Gabio of Tina, Hon. Baltazar Subando of Brgy. Calean, and Vergel Kilayco – recounted their experiences from being underprivileged to becoming successful in their chosen fields as a transformation entailed by the association.
City Mayor Lino O. Montilla and Vice Mayor Lalaine Montilla also conveyed their support by personally gracing the undertaking at Sarangani.
Mayor Lino unveiled that to further assist PYAP, the city government has allotted P1-Million worth of funding exclusive to the organization. Additionally, as PYAP is under the umbrella of Sangguniang Kabataan, another P1 million budget was integrated to the SK’s, in case PYAP needs to tap their assistance.
Also full-force in support of the group’s endeavor were Acting-CSWDO Sitrina Draug, Project Evaluation Officer Josephine Ubaldo, Local Youth Development Officer – Designate Elmer Felongco, Community Affairs Officer Laila Gulmayo-Pelaez, and CESU Marlow Anthony Buenacosa.
