Mayor Montilla talks with CNC on feat against malnutrition

Headstrong towards his commitment to elevate the nutrition status of Tacurongnons, City Mayor Angelo Montilla discussed with the City Nutrition Council (CNC) the milestones reached by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacurong in addressing the prevalent malnutrition and health issues in the city on a meeting sited at the Tacurong City Cultural and Sports Center, October 28, 2020.

Mayor Montilla vowed in December of last year to vacate his office if he fails in ceasing malnutrition in the city. With Mayor Montilla’s relentless effort and the unwavering support of the academe and agencies involved, the CNC achieved such quite a feat in attaining this goal in a short span of time.

In a partial accomplishment report by the City Nutrition Office, Myka Angelou Tomboc, City Nutrition Program Coordinator, bared the City Technical Roadmap of revived, sustained and completed health programs by the CNC, and substantial effect of these in solving the health issues in the city.

One of the flagship programs of CNC is the First 1000 Days (F1KD) program that aims to provide maternal health care to pregnant women and to prevent or resolve stunting and wasting of children age 2 years old and below.

Julie Anne Llavore, City Account Officer of Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) shared their experiences with CNC since the term of Former City Mayor Lina O. Montilla until the takeover of Mayor Angelo’s term.

The CNC, in partnership with ZFF, kickstarted projects such as the Community Kitchen Program, Micronutrient Supplementation, and Buntis Class to selected pregnant women.

In a call for a continuous action and sustainability, City Vice Mayor Lino O. Montilla, also the Sangguniang Panlungsod Chairperson on Health and Nutrition, presented various ordinances passed in support of the CNC. City Councilors Lalaine Montilla and David Salazar who were present in the meeting, backed up the motion.

CNC’s milestones were commended by the Department of Health Region XII through Lorelie Resmundo, Development Management Officer, and the National Nutrition Committee through Annalita Flores, Nutrition Officer III.

Elated by the report made by the CNC, Mayor Roncal expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards the hardship of LGU-Tacurong and its partners in the mission to alleviate malnutrition in the city.

Amelia Bochorno, City Planning and Development Coordinator, stressed the importance of the City Nutrition Coordination Plan (CNAP) integrated with the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and Executive-Legislative Agenda (ELA) of the city, and the assimilation to the Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) of the twenty barangays in Tacurong for a more fluid implementation to their constituents.

Dr. Giovanni Deles, City Health Officer and Rogelio Garcia, City Nutrition Action Officer also shared their insights on the meeting.

The importance of other related programs and offices were also highlighted by their respective program heads: Leoncia Nebres, City Agricultural Services Office Head, for food security, Victoria Dolido, City Local Government Operations Officer, for Sangguniang Kabataan, Allan S. Freno, City Information Officer, for Information, Education and Communication (IEC), Emilyn Dimacali, City Social Welfare and Development Office, for Dietary Supplementation Program and Jose V.
