Tacurong CDRRMC evaluated for Gawad KALASAG 2016

On August 17, 2016, Tacurong City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) welcomed the regional evaluators for the Gawad KALASAG 2016 regional level.

Coming from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), the evaluators were composed of two panels that evaluated the CDRRMC and the TRACER, the City’s own search and rescue team, separately.

The first team of evaluators were composed of Jessilou Frugalidad and Relmie Ramson of the DILG, Michael Mayo of DOST, Dennis Domingo III of DSWD, and Bai April Sinsuat of the OCD.

The team met with City Mayor Lina O. Montilla, CDRRMO-designate Eufemia Robles, Hon. Psyche Sucaldito, former councilor Rodrigo Jamorabon, and the different LGU office heads who are part of the council.

In her opening remarks, the city mayor intimated, “Every year we join Gawad Kalasag because we want to keep on improving. Again this time, I hope you can help us point out kung ano pa ang kulang. We want to keep on learning.”

Ms. Eufemia Robles led the presentation on the achievements of the CDRRMC; there was a panel discussion among the evaluators and the stakeholders not only on the things that need improvement, but also compliments on the best practices of the council.

Simultaneously, a separate evaluation was conducted on the TRACER team. The second team of evaluators was composed of Major Alvin Tanguiling of 512 Engineer Construction Battalion, Ismael Ngitngit of DepEd, and Shiela Marginado and Jennelyn Bartolome of the OCD.

TRACER team leader Jun Robles led the presentation on the achievements of the group. He highlighted the fact that the team is mostly comprised of SAR-trained civilian volunteers deployed in vital areas in the city including public offices, the public terminal, and schools.

TRACER had been a regional winner of Gawad KALASAG in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

The Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) is a presidential award given to individuals, non-government organizations, private sector, and government organizations in recognition of their initiative in helping the Philippine government uplift the standard of disaster management in the country.
