LGU continues to beef up barangay anti-drug campaign

The city government continues to strengthen its fight against drugs and one way of doing it is by saturating the barangays with strong advocacies with the mayor leading the way.

In the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) launch in Brgy. New Isabela on November 7, Mayor Angelo Montilla, who also sits as chairperson of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), enjoined all stakeholders to be persistent until the drug problem is eliminated.

“The success of this program lies not only at the hands of the implementers but all the stakeholders especially the direct beneficiaries or the drug surrenderers”, the mayor said.

Department of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular No. 2018-125 sets the guidelines for CBRP implementation.

Under the circular, community-based treatment is adopted when a drug user or drug abuser is assessed to be low risk or has mild severity substance use disorder.

After the PNP identifies the drug surfacing personalities under its ‘tokhang’ campaign, it refers them to the Department of Health for drug dependency examination.

The surrenderers who are evaluated to have mild severity substance use disorder are then referred to the local health services offices for rehabilitation and treatment.

Those who have moderate to severe substance use disorder are referred to higher facilities like rehabilitation centers.

For Tacurong, community-based rehabilitation is handled by the Office for City Health Services.

Meanwhile, aftercare and livelihood facilitation fall under the responsibility of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

The final stage of the CBRP, which is monitoring/evaluation is the task of all CADAC members.

According to CBRP Focal Person for Health Riza Abejero, there are currently 707 Persons in Tacurong who are identified as Persons Who Used Drugs or PWUDs.

“We already launched the program to 17 barangays of the city and we hope to cover all the 20 barangays by this week”, Abejero said. (ASF, LGU Information)
