LGU-Tacurong through its Office for Veterinary Services had vaccinated a total of 6,000 heads of backyard and fighting cocks to boost the immunity of the poultry population against aratay, according to City Veterinarian Heremenegilda Sanque.
The office conducted house-to-house vaccination and reached out to poultry raisers to educate them about the deadly disease. Newcastle disease or aratay is a poultry disease that had hit several provinces in the country affecting the poultry industry. This disease occurs in areas with no vaccination and de-worming of domestic poultry.
Sanque also stressed the importance of securing veterinary health certificates in transporting poultry and livestock. “We strictly impose this rule because it is also a way to prevent the spread of diseases in the city and in other parts of the country,” said Dr. Sanque.
