The thousands of smiling faces gathered on the fine morning of August 3, on their heads headgears of ingenious designs, was proof that Tacurong stood the test of time.

Sixty-eight (68) years after it was founded, the people of Tacurong still come together every year to celebrate this place they call home.

Twenty nineteen (2019) marks the 68th Foundation Anniversary of Tacurong and it boasts the theme “Katahum sang Barangay Ipasundayag, Pag-ugyon sang Katawhan Iwaragwag.” And indeed, people from all twenty barangays and from other private and public sectors of the city joined the celebrations on August 1 to 3.

The first day of the festivities opened with an Agri Fair wherein each barangay was able to showcase their abundant agricultural products while competing for the Best Booth. This year’s champion is Barangay Rajah Muda.

Tacurongnons also took a look back at history through literary arts. Senior citizens reminisced the beginnings of Tacurong with their lyrical proficiency in the annual Dungug komposo contest while millennials expressed their modern take on the same with spoken poetry.

Tacurong Day was on August 3 and the celebration started early in the morning with a headgear parade and competition. The participants included the barangay governments, public schools and colleges, national line agencies, the private sector, and the different offices of the LGU.

Tacurong City Schools Division won 1st place for the Inter-agency category while the Office of the City Health Services was first for the LGU Inter- Office.

The celebrations continued at the Tacurong City Cultural and Sports Center for the awarding of the Top 20 Outstanding Business Taxpayers, Outstanding Real Property Taxpayers, Top 5 Outstanding Barangays for the Collection of Real Property Tax, Top 5 Outstanding Barangay Treasurers, Talakudong Tourism Awards, and Best VAW Desk Officers.

The fanfare ended with Larong Pinoy and the official opening of the 1st Angelo O. Montilla Basketball and Volleyball Tournament.

In his Tacurong Day message, City Mayor Angelo ‘Roncal” Montilla reminded the crowd, “Tagsa-tagsa sa aton may kaugalingon nga responsibilidad sa aton kabarangayan. Dumdumon naton nga isa lang ang aton handom: isa ka tawo, isa ka damgo– Paasensahon, paprogresihon, kag patawhayon ang aton pinalangga nga siyudad sang Tacurong.”(YMR, LGUTac-Info)
