The Office for Senior Citizens Affairs in Tacurong is now enlisting indigent senior citizens for the additional 4,800 social pension slots allotted by DSWD to the city this 2017.

Bonafide Tacurong residents, 60 years old and above, and are not receiving pension from SSS, GSIS, or Veteran’s Pension are qualified to register. Applicants need to bring their senior citizen ID and three (3) pieces 1×1 ID picture upon registration. If applicants do not have a senior citizen ID, they may bring any valid document or ID for proof of age and residence.

“The challenge now is to spread this good news to all barangays. We need to reach all our indigent senior citizens,” said newly-appointed OSCA Head Lorenzo Ysulat Jr.

The number of additional slots that DSWD gives to LGUs is based on the latter’s accomplishments and efficiency in reporting and social pension distribution in the past years. In 2016, LGU only had 2,655 social pension slots. “This grant from the DSWD is overwhelming but we will make sure that all slots will be filled in,” said Mayor Lina Montilla.

Government’s provision of social pension to the elderly is mandated by RA 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

Enlistment for additional social pension slots in Tacurong is until January 27, 2016. JLBillano-Fabreag
