Two weeks after the issuance of the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) of the DILG, Tacurong City’s Gender and Development (GAD) is the first to avail of its training in Region XII.

The training was held last March 14-15, 201 at Edjin Pension House in Tacurong.More than 50 participants attended the said training composed of the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) executive committee and technical working groups. They are the various Tacurong-LGU offices, SangguniangPanlungsod, PNP-VAWC helpdesk, Department of Education, Barnagay Captains, and persons with disabilities.

Vice Mayor Joseph George Lechonsito visited on the 2nd day to show his support, while Councilor Psyche Sucaldito was present all throughout as the chair of the Committee on Gender and Development.

During the two-day training the participants were taught to use the gender assessment tools, HGDG and GERLKa Ba (Gender Responsive LGU Ka Ba).

Through HGDG, the GFPS will be able to identify and measure gender inequality in the community. The City and barangays will also be able to formulate gender responsive programs using the HGDG budgeting and planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation tools.

The HGDG was formulated to address gender inequality in Philippine society by accounting the 5% GAD allocation budget of the LGU’s in their GAD efforts. (Yen Robles, LGU Tacurong)
