TACURONG CONTINUES CARE FOR PERSONS WHO USED DRUGS
With the government's massive crack down on illegal drugs in the previous years, Tacurong City was able to care for hundreds of drug surrenderers through its TaTaPPP Program (Tabang Tatap para sa Pagbag-o, Paglaum kag Pagtuon), a holistic approach to rehabiliation and reintegration.
However, the goverment ensures that assistance to these Persons Who Used Drugs (PWUDs) does not stop with just a rehabilitation and recovery, but continues with an aftercare.
On October 22, the City Government of Tacurong held a kick-off ceremony for the program dubbed simply as After Care Program for Persons Who Used Drugs at the Tacurong City Cultural and Sports Center.
Present at the opening program were Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) members Hon. Ralen Tabusares, Hon. Harvey Legas, Hon. Carlos Segura, Hon. Geraldine Collado, and Hon. Bernardino Umadhay, who is also the Chairperson of the SP Committee on Anti-Drug Abuse.
City Mayor Joseph George L. Lechonsito committed his full support by sending City Administrator Ramon Lozañes as representative.
The community-based after care program is designed for a period of 6 months, which includes 12 sessions of family counselling and other topical sessions; religious and sports activities; livelihood and skills trainings; and a series of home visitations and conferences.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) will lead the program with assistance from the City Health Office (CHO), the DILG, and other partner agencies. A total of 359 PWUDs from the different barangays of Tacurong were identified to undergo after care.
