The City of Tacurong simultaneously celebrated the Barangay Farmers & Entrepreneurs Festival 2017 and the 8th SULONG Tacurong Business Week, which ran from July 31 to August 3, 2017, and the 66th Tacurong Day on August 3.

On July 31st, the festivities opened with a motorcade participated by the city officials and LGU employees, Tacurong PNP, JTF Talakudong, BMEG, TESDA Sultan Kudarat, DTI Sultan Kudarat, SSS Sultan Kudarat, and the different barangay officials.

The Barangay Farmers & Entrepreneurs Festival 2017 showcased the best agricultural and commercial products of each barangay in a bahay kubo competition. Barangay Griño won first place during the awarding ceremony on August 3.

The 8th SULONG Tacurong Business Week partnered with the DTI and organized forums and seminars on investment, food business, soap making, and perfume making.

An SK Producers Fair also showcased the innovative products of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs all over the province while the Young Entrepeneurs Fair boasted the inventive food products of senior students from the different colleges of the city including SKSU, NDTC, and St. Albert College.

On August 2, the Public Employment Service Office of the city government also conducted a job fair that attracted 190 jobseekers; 31 of those were hired on the spot.

August 3 was the 66th foundation anniversary of Tacurong, or also popularly known as Tacurong Day. As per tradition, Tacurong Day was celebrated with a program cum awarding ceremony of the top tax payers in the city and the best performers during the barangay festival and business week.

Among the top 20 recognized Outstanding Business Tax Payers, Tacurong Fit Mart ranked no. 1; for the most Real Property Tax collected among the 20 barangays, Barangay New Carmen topped the ranks; and, for the Most Outstanding Individual on Real Property Tax payment, Ms. Eleonor Abalos of Brgy. Buenaflor came in first place.

The Tacurong Tourism Awards 2016 also recognized the Tourism Oriented Establishments and Tourism Related Establishments in the city, which are considered as key players in the growth of the tourism industry in Tacurong. These establishments include Woodland Tourist Inn, Monte Vicenteau Resort, Felra Suits, and Edjin Pension House among others.

MASA MASID’s TaTaPP program also awarded 8 drug surrenderers who have completed their six months holistic rehabilitation program. Mayor Montilla, DILG’s Alberto Sero, Jr., Rev. Fr. Zaldy Robles, and PSUPT Ranie Hachuela conferred the completion certificates to the graduates.

In her message, Mayor Montilla reminded the Tacurongnons of how far Tacurong has come since its founding 66 years ago. Through good governance and team work between city officials and the constituents, Tacurong remained steadfast and consistent in its development despite the various security and economic threats it had endured through the years. And to top off her message, the mayor enthusiastically shared the new big businesses that will open in the city this year and the next, which include the biggest Citi Hardware in Mindanao, Primark Department Store, Savemore, and Chowking Tacurong among others.

Lastly, as Talakudong season tails after the Tacurong Day celebrations, Mayor Montilla led the opening salvo by declaring the Talakudong Festival 2017 open.

The Tacurong Day ended with a Larong Pinoy and Kantahan ng Kabataan competitions in the afternoon. (YMR, LGU TacurongInformation)
