“Health is Wealth” reminded City Vice Mayor Joseph George Lechonsito as he spearheaded the ABKD or Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue, an anti-Dengue campaign of the City of Tacurong.
The campaign began with a fogging of high risk areas, starting with Brgy. San Emmanuel and Scout Camp campsite in Brgy. New Carmen on October 7, 2015 and Brgy. San Pablo on October 13, 2015.
Through the Office of the City Mayor, the City Health Services Office, and CENRO, a larvae study was conducted in four high risk/dengue sensitive barangays last May 2015. The study was able to produce ABKD, a dengue prevention and control measure, which begins with the 4 S’s of Dengue:
- Search and destroy areas where mosquitoes thrive,
- Seek early consultation from the City Health Services Office, Barangay Health Stations, or Private Medical Doctors,
- Self-protection measures including mosquito repellents, and
- Say No to Indiscriminate Fogging.
Aside from the City Government-led fogging and larvicide distribution, ABKD will also continue to conduct information drives to educate Tacurongnons and thus encourage them to cooperate and support the fight against dengue in their very homes. The City Government will also provide ovitraps and treated nets to schools in affected barangays.
As of the 3rd quarter of 2015, there were 69 reported cases of dengue and 2 reported deaths from 10 barangays. (Yen Robles, LGU-Tacurong)
