The City of Tacurong is hailed as the 2018 Best Prepared City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) under the Component City Category.

City Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Rodrigo Jamorabon received the award during the conferment held on August 7, 2018 at Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City. A cash prize amounting to P50 thousand was also given to the city government.

Gawad Kalasag (KAlamaidad at Sakuna LAbanan SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) is a presidential award given to individuals, non-government organizations, private sector, and government organizations in recognition of their initiatives in helping the government uplift the standards of disaster management in the country.

It is a mechanism by which the NDRRMC advances awareness of the best practices of DRRM and humanitarian response in action.

Mayor Lina Montilla, who sits as CDRRMC Chairperson, said that the award is a product of years of improving the city’s disaster risk reduction management program.

“We want to keep on learning that is why we were always keeping tab on recommendations given to us during regional evaluations and subsequently acted on them”, Mayor Montilla said.

As regional winner, Tacurong CDRRMC will automatically be the region’s entry for the national award. (ASF-LGU Information)
