“We always hold sports and socio-cultural activities to strengthen our bond…It is high time for us, all the local unions in our region, to unite and fulfill our social and environmental obligations.”
These words of Anacleto T. Saya-ang, President of the Public Sector Employees Alliance of Socsksargen (PSEAS), motivated the officers of Tacurong City Employees Association (TACEA) and other PSEAS member-unions to grow trees in Sitio Tinefulan, Barangay Maligo, Polomolok on June 20, 2014.
TACEA and local unions in Region XII braved mountains and rivers to support of the efforts of the General Santos City Water District to protect its watershed in the area. The multi-stakeholder tree-growing activity, with the theme Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level, also aims to reduce the risks of landslide and flashflood hence protecting the community.
“This worthwhile activity reminded us that we can do more as an association..for communities and for the environment,” said TACEA President Amelia Bochorno.
Among the participants were local unions from LGUs in Kalamansig, Columbio, President Quirino, Lambayong, Isulan, and Sarangani.
Before the participants planted trees, GSCWD and PSEAS signed a memorandum of agreement to fortify each other’s commitment in protecting the watershed.
GSCWD had adopted the Sitio and has been partnering with different organizations for its tree-growing activities for 5 years now. (LGU Tacurong City Information)
