With the second round of Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio about to kick off later this month, the Department of Health 12 and the provincial government would like to reach or exceed the target of 95 percent immunization coverage.

This was the key message of DOH 12 Assistant Director Fatima Emban in her talk during the Stakeholders Meeting and Orientation in Isulan on January 9.

With the province of Sultan Kudarat already recorded cases of polio, it is more urgent and important to have higher immunization coverage.

It is reported that a single case of polio requires the government to declare an outbreak.

More cases have been reported throughout the country and the government is doing its best to stop the outbreak.

Engaging the community is among the effective strategies to let them help advocate and support the program.

Mayor Angelo Montilla is also enjoining all citizens of Tacurong, especially the parents of children under five years old to submit their children for immunization.

The second round of oral vaccination will start on January 20 and will run until February 2, 2020.

After the second round of immunization, two more rounds of vaccination will be conducted by DOH by end of January until the month of April.

In other words, all children below five years old should have been vaccinated four times for complete protection. (ASF, LGU Information)
