The provincial monitoring team for the functionality of Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) commended Tacurong City for its child-friendly advocacies and programs. The team cited the following as the LGU’s best practices: Project PAGLAUM under MDG-FACES, Busog Lusog Talino (BLT), PEACE Summer Camp, and Kalinga sa mga Batang Lansangan.
The team conducted an evaluation conference on August 12, 2014 at the Tacurong City Crisis Center for Women and Children. The conference was attended by representatives of LGU offices (Planning, Budget, Health, Social Welfare), PNP-Tacurong, and Local Government Operations Officer Alberto Sero Jr.
The team noted the LGU’s initiatives in working with non-government and people’s organizations, national line agencies, and religious organization to support and sustain the projects. LGU’s resource mobilization was also commended especially in sustaining the BLT in partnership with Jollibee Gorup Foundation, and PEACE Camp in partnership with SEAOIL.
Through Project PAGLAUM under DILG’s MDG-FACES, the LGU aims to improve the living condictions of 40 children beneficiaries in Purok Onse—a slum area.
“The team was also amazed at how the Kalinga sa mga Batang Lansangan had helped children in conflict with law and other children at risk to fulfill their dreams thru the Balik Eskwela Program in partnership with DepEd-ALS,” according to Crisis Center Head Nancy Bawe.
Kalinga sa mga Batang Lansangan as a community-based literacy and preventive intervention program for street children and CICL. This is through the sponsorship of Councilor Psyche M. Sucaldito. The program is now on its fourth year of implementation.
The 3-man team headed by PSWDO Thelma Cadelina, RSW invited LGU-Tacurong City to present its projects to other municipalities. The team believes that this will motivate other LGUs to come up with innovations for promoting children’s welfare. (LGU-Tacurong City Information)
