PDEA, LGU bat for drug-free workplaces in Tacurong

More than 30 owners and representatives of establishments based in Tacurong City attended the one-day advocacy program of the government aiming to promote a drug-free workplace held today at the CDRRM Operations Center.

Participants came from hotels, bars, restaurants, subdivisions, condominiums, and warehouses operating within the city.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 12 spearheaded the activity in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacurong.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Philippine National Police (PNP) also graced the event.

The conduct of advocacy program is in compliance with RA 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 as well as the DOLE Department Order 53-03, Series of 2003 that provides guidelines for implementation of Drug-Free Workplace Policies and Programs for Private Sector.

Under DO 53-03, establishments need to conduct mandatory drug testing for their new hires as well as random drug testing for employees.

Lectures on various topics were presented by PDEA officers and agents including presentations on how to detect illegal drugs, laboratories, concealment methods and clandestine operations, and salient features of RA 9165.

In his message, Mayor Angelo Montilla urged the employers to abide by the guidelines of DO 53-03 and to seriously keep a drug-free establishment.

DOLE Sultan Kudarat Director Mary Jane Hoksuan and Pol. Lt. Col. Rey Egos echoed the statement of Mayor Montilla adding that this advocacy is in line with their mandates of promoting the welfare of workers as well as keeping order in the workplace.

PDEA Regional Director Naravy Duquiatan conveyed her gratitude to the support of stakeholders in the endeavor.

Another highlight of the activity was the signing of Declaration of Support to the advocacy program by the stakeholders. ASF, LGU Information)
