NATIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE COMMISSION LAUDS MAYOR LECHONSITO DURING FORUM
DAVAO CITY - The National Climate Change Commission was impressed by Mayor Joseph George Lechonsito’s active participation during the conduct of Local Climate Change Mainstreaming Forum for LGUs on July 29 in Davao City.
Commissioner Albert dela Cruz, Sr. lauded the mayor saying that the latter’s presence for the whole duration of the forum is a testament of his commitment to mainstream and localize climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives in his city.
Mayor Lechonsito was among the very few mayors who joined the forum that was also attended by other government agencies and private institutions.
“Mayor Lechonsito’s presence for the whole duration of the forum and him being the last mayor to leave the venue is a concrete example of his passion to embrace the challenge of climate change”, dela Cruz said.
In his message during the forum, Mayor Lechonsito said that there are many opportunities to explore in addressing the challenges of climate change and he is grateful that the forum gave the local governments wide array of options and choices.
“The template on the enhanced local climate change action plan LGUs need to adopt will be a huge help for us in scaling up our efforts”, he said.
Mayor Lechonsito added that the LGU is already exploring ways of utilizing renewable energy more, including the installation of rooftop solar panels in government buildings.
In his attendance at the forum, the mayor was joined by Acting Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Hilda Mercado and Executive Assistant lV Ana Marie Cajandig. (ASF, LGU Information)
