As Tacurong City braces for extension of Modified General Community Quarantine in the next fifteen days, drivers need to make another adjustment as odd-even number coding scheme is reimplemented in the city.

The provincial government has already issued Executive Order Number 37 placing the entire Sultan Kudarat under MGCQ until June 30, 2020.

There are few changes in the guidelines of the EO and one of these is bringing back the implementation of the odd-even scheme for tricycle operating as public transports.

The reimplementation of the odd-even scheme was earlier proposed by Tacurong City Task Force to the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force after consulting with drivers and operators.

In a dialogue with tricycle operators and drivers association (TODA) in Tacurong, many drivers reported that the odd-even scheme appeared to have benefited them in terms of increase in daily income as compared to the traditional system they were adopting.

Benito Biala is one of the many drivers favorable with the reinstatement of the odd-even scheme saying that aside from the increase in their daily income, flow of traffic within the city’s business district is dramatically eased.

“Bangud sa odd-even scheme, mas may panahon pa kami nga makapahuway kag makaupod ang amon pamilya,” Biala said.

Control numbers of tricycles-for-hire will still serve as the reference for the scheme.

Tricycles with control plates ending in odd numbers will be allowed to ply their routes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while those ending in even numbers will only travel on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Odd-even scheme is lifted on Sundays, meaning all tricycles-for-hire are allowed to go out.

Meanwhile, Mayor Angelo ‘Roncal’ Montilla appeals for the continued cooperation of the public to all guidelines and protocols being implemented in the city’s fight against COVID-19.

“Kabay pa nga labaan pa gid naton ang aton pasensiya agud mas mangin madasig ang pag-adjust naton sa idalum sang ‘new normal’ environment,” the mayor said. (ASF, LGU Information)
