City Mayor Lina O. Montilla mentored twenty Local Chief Executives in Region XII during the Newly Elected Officials (NEO) program of the DILG dubbed Component II – Basic Orientation: First Critical Days for the Re-elected Local Officials of the NEO Program on October 4 in Villa Amor Hotel, Koronadal City.

With topics in Fiscal Management and Participatory and Transparent Governance, the city mayor highlighted in her mentoring the best practices of the Local Government of Tacurong under her watch such as the on-site consultation per LGU office and per barangay during budget preparation; giving recognition to top business taxpayers and top barangays in real property tax collection; and, institutionalization of the Business One Stop Shop to simplify and hasten the processing of business permits in the city. In addition, one of the highlights of Mayor Montilla’s presentation was the Php2 million City Aid given to each of Tacurong’s twenty barangays as the city’s assistance for their development projects and activities regardless of income status and political affiliation. The same city aid concept has been replicated by other LGUs in the region.

Also present as mentors during the event were General Santos City Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera and NAPOLCOM XII Acting Regional Director Veronica C. Hatague. DILG XII Regional Director Reynaldo M. Bungubung and OCD XII Regional Director Minda Morante were also present to support the event.

Mayor Montilla has recently finished training as a mentor at the Mentoring for Optimal Leadership and Development (MOLD) Mentor’s Program on September 27-29, 2016 at La Breza Hotel, Quezon City. She is now part of the Pool of Local Governance Mentors of the Local Government Academy (LGA). (Yen Robles, LGU-Tacurong Information)
