“Women these days are even with men in so many ways.” This is the encouragement of City Councilor Lalaine Montilla, Chairperson on Gender and Development, as the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacurong kicked off the 2021 National Women’s Month with the theme “Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!”, March 8, 2021 at the Tacurong City Cultural and Sports Center.

Last year’s celebration was ceased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year the LGU makes another attempt to advocate women empowerment and gender equality through a series of forthcoming activities within the month led by the City of Tacurong Council for the Development of Women (CTCDW).

CTCDW President Janet Collado eagerly spoke on the contributions of Tacurongnon women in the society that proved that gender does not set boundaries to what an individual can do. These were evident in the remarkable work of women awarded with the Tacurong Women Achiever Award last December 7, 2020.

City Mayor Angelo O. Montilla stressed his gratitude towards the women and dubbed them as ‘the real champions of the government and the community’. He also called on for the continuous and active participation of the women on the programs of the LGU to achieve a clean and transparent governance.

Furthermore, the LGU reached out assistance to the Tacurong City Jail Female Dormitory and Tacurong Women – Persons With Disability Association by handing out books and hygiene kits as assisted by City Councilor Lalaine and City First Lady Cora Montilla, Honorary Chairperson of CTCDW.

The first and only female City Mayor of Tacurong yet, former Mayor Lina Montilla, also graced the program in support of the undertaking.

Representatives from various agencies and offices such as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) ,City Schools Division of Tacurong, and Sultan Kudarat Water District were also in attendance. (DEC, LGU-TacInformation)
