After numerous attempts to clear out city roads of sidewalk obstructions, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacurong has made yet another road verification to ensure the removal of roadside blockages such as poultry pens and other unnecessary structures that occupied the government’s right of way.

Fronted by the City Local Government Operations Officer Victoria Dolido, the city government engineers and representatives of Bureau of Fire Protection – Tacurong and Tacurong City Police Station carried out the inspection and the communication to the concerned citizens from the barangays of Poblacion, San Pablo and New Isabela yesterday, January 26, 2021.

This action made by the LGU and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) bore positive responses and feedbacks from the populace. However, while previous entities issued with reminder and warning beforehand have vacated the roadside premises, some businesses like poultry-selling and machine shops have returned after quite some time to occupy the sidewalks again.

They were once again advised to remove their businesses out of the highways as soon as possible.

Obtruding electrical and cable wires, especially in the area of Habitat Subdivision in Brgy. San Pablo, were also looked upon by the DILG for a possible re-adjustment because they seem to hinder highway openings.

Matters relative to this observation done by the LGU and DILG were thereafter brought to City Mayor Angelo O. Montilla’s attention and possible actions and sanctions to be issued were then discussed on a meeting.

With the revisit of existing ordinances regarding highway obstructions, Tacurongnons can soon expect another round of roadside clearing and road check-up activities from the LGU and by then, a penalty fee will be imposed on violators.

Meanwhile, residents with businesses and houses affected by the clearing will be subjected to a relocation by the LGU.

The road clearing is the LGU’s response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to execute the government’s right of way and clear out possible sidewalk obstructions that could endanger the lives of the citizens and hamper the smooth flow of traffic. (DEC, LGU-TacInfo)
