“I am betting my mayoralty in my commitment to address malnutrition problem in Tacurong City”.

That was the bold statement made by Mayor Angelo ‘Roncal’ Montilla in front of the local media during the Kapihan sa Kahanginan held on October 28 at the city hall.

The same statement was made by the mayor in September when Zuellig Family Foundation declared Tacurong as a pilot area in the implementation of Urban Nutrition Governance Program that aims to address the problem of stunting and wasting caused by malnutrition.

During the Kapihan, ZFF Account Officer Julie Ann Llavore said that the implementation of the nutrition governance program is anchored on the newly enacted First 1,000 Days Law.

“The first 1,000 days beginning from conception until the baby’s two years of age are the most critical period in ensuring quality health and nutrition of both the mother and her baby”, Llavore said.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Lino Montilla committed that the Sanggunian will pass the necessary legislation to make sure that the city’s nutrition programs are realized.

Other resource persons in the Kapihan are City Health Officer Giovanni Deles and City Nutrition Action Officer Rogelio Garcia.

City Councilor Lalaine Montilla co-hosted the Kapihan who also enjoined all pregnant women in the city to visit their barangay health centers and avail of various benefits during pregnancy and after giving birth.

Councilor Montilla also invited all pregnant women to attend the launching program of the First 1,000 Days Law and roll-out of Urban Nutrition Governance Program on November 4, 2019 at the city gym.

Local media organizations that joined the Kapihan included Radyo Natin, Radyo Bandera, and Radyo ni Juan. (ASF, LGU Information)
