Soon, Tacurong City will have its own group of drivers who can serve as tour guides and even as photographers.
This is the vision of the Department of Tourism and LGU-Tacurong City as they start training tricycle drivers as part of the tourism frontline.
Nineteen tricycle drivers joined the Drivers as Tourism Frontline Seminar on May 16, 2016 sponsored by the LGU. They learned the basics of tourism, its values, customer relation, childwise tourism, gender and development, and hygiene and grooming.
Representatives of the Land Transportation Office XII also discussed defensive driving and driving decorum. DOT Regional Director Nelly Nita Dillera discussed the basics of photography.
“Kung magaling kayong driver, kaya nyong magkwento tungkol sa mga attractions dito sa Tacurong, at marunong pa kayo kumuha ng litrato, matutuwa ang mga turista,” Dillera addressed to the participants. According to her, if tourists are happy with frontline services, it is likely that they will spread the word about the place. This will lead to more tourism arrivals. “We also see to it that tourism is sustainable and that it will give the locals economic returns,” she added.
Majority of the seminar participants were drivers who take the Barangay Baras and Upper Katungal routes. The conduct of the seminar is part of the preparations of the City Government for the upcoming 2nd Tacurong Bird Festival on May 28-29, 2016 to be held at the Baras Bird Sanctuary.
