To temporarily address unemployment especially to disadvantaged workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) implemented anew the emergency employment program in Tacurong City.

The program is under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Disadvantaged Workers or TUPAD program of the DOLE and implemented by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

Identified by the City Social Welfare and Development Office through PWD focal person Cathy Catalan, the beneficiaries were selected from organized PWD associations in the barangays of Upper Katungal, New Isabela, San Pablo, EJC Montilla, D. Ledesma and Calean.

They are expected to render light workloads in their respective barangays in exchange for a daily minimum wage of P295.00 or P2,950.00 for ten days.

On February 22, eighty-nine Persons with Disability (PWD) received their working shirts and hats to be worn during their 10-day work.

City Councilors David Salazar and Carlos Borromeo Segura joined in the distribution of shirts and hats.
Ronald Maguale of DOLE Field Office also conducted a short orientation on occupational safety to the beneficiaries.
The PWD’s ten-day work will end on February 28.

The barangay government of Upper Katungal serves as the Accredited Co-Partner of DOLE in this year’s TUPAD implementation.

In 2016, more than 700 unemployed residents from 19 barangays of Tacurong also availed of a ten-day emergency employment. (AFreno, LGU Tacurong City Information)
