Fifty (50) members of Tacurong City Balot Vendors Association will receive P749 Thousand worth of livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under its Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program or DILEEP.

The LGU, through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), lobbied for said assistance in 2014. According to Mayor Lina O. Montilla, she was compelled to take action because she saw the need first-hand.
“Ang mga balut vendors pirmi ko makit-an kada hapon mag-uli ako halin sa city hall. Ginababa nila halin sa tricycle ang ila mga gamit kag baligya kada hapon,” shared Mayor Lina O. Montilla.

With the amount that DOLE extended, the LGU will purchase and customize mobile stalls for the balut vendors.
Mayor Lina Montilla received the check for the livelihood assistance from DOLE XII Regional Director Ofelia Domingo at the DOLE Regional Office in Koronadal City on May 6, 2015. Mayor Montilla was joined by City Accountant Elma Bides, LGU PESO In Charge Allan Freno, and City Treasury staff Wilfredo Asuzena. Also present during the turnover of check were DOLE Sultan Kudarat Field Officer Edwin Morales, Senior Labor Employment Officer Domingo Baron, and DOLE XII DILEEP Focal Person Mary Grace Pauya.

Montilla shared the good news to the balut vendors during the launching of DSWD’s BUB-Funded Sustainable Livelihood Program in Tacurong on May 7, 2015. (LGU-Tacurong City Information)
