DOLE confers national citation to LGU Tacurong PESO for exemplary service
Mabalacat, Pampanga - The Public Employment Service Office of the Local Government Unit of Tacurong City received a national citation from the Department of Labor and Employment in recognition of its exemplary performance during the time when the country was reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Joseph George Lechonsito and PESO Manager Allan Freno received a Plaque of Appreciation as National Nominee of the Bayanihan Service Award conferred by DOLE-Bureau of Local Employment OIC Patrick Patriwirawan, Jr. during the 22nd National PESO Congress held at the SMX Convention Center in Clark, Mabalacat, Pampanga on October 25, 2022.
They were joined at the awarding rites by City Councilor Geraldine Collado, City Councilor Bernardino Umadhay, Jr. and PESO Staff Ervin Jay Balanueco.
Prior to its declaration as national nominee, LGU Tacurong PESO has been adjudged as regional winner of the award under the Component City Category.
The Award for Bayanihan Service is conferred in recognition of the efforts and initiatives of the LGU PESOs and school-based Job Placement Offices throughout the country that strived to mitigate the effects of the pandemic in their own localities.
Already in its second run, the Bayanihan Service Awards is held in lieu of the Search for Best PESO Awards.
Specifically, the award is given to PESOs and JPOs that exhibited exceptional and extraordinary contributions to quality and decent employment through innovation, resilience and humanitarian service despite the limitations and restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the category of resilience, LGU Tacurong PESO was able to maintain its core service on referral and placement by implementing the Off-Site Job Fair, the first to be implemented in Region 12. With several employers precluded to conduct face-to-face recruitment, the off-site job fair organized by the PESO had been a great help to continue its job-matching activities.
The PESO placed drop boxes to designated areas up where jobseekers can drop their application folders addressed to a specific employer. PESO personnel will then collect the folders and send them to employers for screening.
Other PESOs in the province of Sultan Kudarat replicated the activity that subsequently helped more jobseekers, especially those coming from areas with limited or no access to internet connection.
Under innovation criterion, PESO Tacurong focused its interventions to vulnerable groups who really struggled to put food on their tables during pandemic. The PESO facilitated provision of emergency empoyment to a group of rehabbed drug users in Barangay Rajah Muda. Together with the barangay council, they convinced the group to set aside portion of their wages to finance their slippers-making business just to keep their livelihood afloat during pandemic.
Meanwhile, the PESO also thrived on extending humanitarian services, among which was the strengthening of crisis communication. As a section that was also in charge of information advocacy of the LGU, the PESO helped in dramatically increasing the public acceptance and demand generation for the COVID-19 vaccines, thus eventually lowering the number of confirmed cases in the city.
Acknowledging the importance of PESO in job facilitation, Mayor Lechonsito has already pledged to fully institutionalize the LGU PESO by creating it as a separate department in early 2023.
“Capacitating our PESO is tantamount to giving our locality optimized platforms in job generation and matching”, the mayor said.
Meanwhile, LGU Tacurong PESO was also declared as National 3rd Placer of Choice of the Press Award for Best Video Presentation.
The "CHOICE OF THE PRESS AWARDS" recognizes the PESO entry’s quality of audio and visual elements that were composed and compiled in a short video clip to accurately convey the initiatives undertaken by the LGU's PESOs nominees in support of their respective documentary submissions.
