The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XII, through its Agri Pinoy program, funded the construction of a mini warehouse with multi-purpose drying pavement at LGU-Tacurong City’s Seed Farm in Barangay Rajah Muda. The facility, now fully functional, costs P700,000.00.
It comes with a drying pavement or dryer which measures 420 square meters.
Prior to the completion of this project, the LGU Seed Farm also had an existing 420-square meter dryer which was constructed in 2012 through DA XII funds.
Now, the LGU Seed Farm dryer measures 840 square meters, capable of drying 80-100 bags of palay. The mini warehouse is used to store 800-1,000 sacks of palay seeds, fertilizer, and other farm inputs.
According to City Agriculturist Ramon Losanes, farmers in the barangay are always welcome to use the dryer. Mayor Lina Montilla imposed that no fee will be charged to farmers who will use the dryer.
The 8-hectare LGU Seed Farm produces quality certified seeds (CS). These seeds are sold to farmers in the city’s 20 barangays at a very low price. Each bag of certified seeds can be bought for as low as P900.00 per bag. These seeds are made available every planting season.
Another unit of mini warehouse with MPDP was installed at Purok Esmeralda, Barangay Upper Katungal for the benefit of the members of the Mindanao Pioneers Agrarian Beneficiaries Multipurpose Cooperative (MINPARBEMCO).
“Ang blessing po na ito ay aalagaan naming..sa pamamagitan ng aming kooperasyon,” said MINPARBEMCO Chairperson Agustin Gilbueno during the turn-over ceremony.
DA XII officially turned over the facilities on August 20, 2014.
Other project sponsors include the LGU-Tacurong City through the Office for the City Agricultural Services, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist-Sultan Kudarat, and MINPARBEMCO. (LGU-Tacurong City Information)
