Irrigators Associations (IA) in the City of Tacurong acquired new machines from the Department of Agriculture (DA) through its Farm Mechanization Program.
The program, with a purpose of minimizing agriculture labor cost, granted new machines to a total of nine IAs in the city.
Kalandagan SWISA received a floating tiller with only 15% equity; SMST IA received a rice transplanter with 10% equity; and Tacurong North Federation of IA Inc. received a rice combine harvester with 10% equity.
Four other IAs received new machines as full grants while two others through raffle.
Meanwhile, LGU-Tacurong engaged in a cost-sharing scheme with the DA for the purchase of a brand new 100-horsepower McCormick four-wheel drive tractor which was released on May 27, 2016 at Bololmala, Tupi, South Cotabato.
Farmers in all barangays can soon borrow the said tractor for farm operations at a minimal cost.
According to Acting City Agriculturist Leoncia Nebres, the tractor costs P2,588,325. The City Government allocated a total of P388,235.29 for this project. The remaining amount was extended by DA XII.
“The LGU, through the Office for Agricultural Services, submitted project proposals to avail allocation of machineries from different DA programs,” said Nebres.
The purchase of the new LGU tractor is under the Agri Pinoy Corn Program. (Jez Billano-Fabreag, LGU Tacurong City Information)
