The City Peace and Order Council (CPOC), chaired by City Mayor Angelo ‘Roncal’ O. Montilla, convened on August 8, 2019 at the CDRRMC building. The council members in attendance included the Punong Barangays, representatives from the PNP, PDEA, JTF Talakudong, 33rd IB, BFP, BJMP, heads of LGU offices, and other public and private entities in the city.
Some of the issues discussed during the meeting included the consideration of the council to declare as Persona Non Grata the left wing rebel groups as pointed out in DILG Memorandum Circular 2018 – 211 and Executive Order No. 70; public roads clearing as per presidential directive during the 4th State of the Nation Address and as emphasized under DILG Memorandum Circular 2019 – 211; and the formal dissolution of the Civilian Volunteers Organization and recognition of the barangay tanod and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) as the only civilian peacekeeping forces allowed in the barangays as provided in the Local Government Code of 1991.
“If we do not follow these directives, we will be answerable to the President,” explained Montilla. “Let us do our jobs well.” The council is set to reconvene on August 16.(YMR, LGUTac-Info)
