cITY MAYOR PROFILE
HON. ANGELO O. MONTILLA
Hon. Angelo O. Montilla’s leadership in Tacurong started in the 1980’s, right after the country regained its democratic freedom through the EDSA Revolution.
The year was 1988 and Tacurong, then a municipality, held its first election after Martial Law.
Mayor Montilla won the mayoral seat and he served our beloved hometown until 1995.
In that year, he was in the middle of his third term as mayor when he ran as Representative for the lone district of Sultan Kudarat.
Again, as what only can be gleamed as trust and confidence of the people in his leadership, he won that congressional race.
It was during his term as a representative that he lobbied for the cityhood of Tacurong.
In 2000, through Republic Act 8805, the municipality of Tacurong became what we know today as the City of Tacurong.
He went on to serve for three terms as representative until 2004.
After that stint in the congress, Hon. Montilla chose the quiet life, away from politics and concentrated on building a family.
But as fate would have it, it would not be the last time that we would see of him.
A cry for his comeback together with his own passion and dedication in serving Tacurongnons that prompted Mayor Montilla to leave his private life and run as city mayor. He easily won in the 2019 elections.
Today, he faces his biggest challenge yet: a global pandemic that wreaked havoc to our city’s safety and economy.
But regardless, while we are currently swimming above the threats of COVID -19 through his wisdom and action, still, only a year in office and Mayor Montilla was able to implement vital infrastructure projects such as:
A people’s dialysis center, a solar streetlight system installation to all the major and minor streets of the city, a redevelopment of the city’s public market, and a development of a green and eco-friendly public park at the heart of the city to name a few.
