During the BLT (Busog Lusog Talino) food handling seminar on July 21, parents of BLT pupils for SY 2014-2015 in Tina Elementary School in Tacurong City learned five important points on food safety: 1) maging malinis; 2) ihiwalay ang luto sa hilaw na pagkain; 3) Lutuin nang mabuti ang pagkain; 4) panatilihing nasa ligtas na temperature ang pagkain; and 5) gumamit ng malinis na tubig at mga sangkap sa pagluluto.
“Importante nga ang ipakaon naton sa mga kabataan hindi lang ang siling nga masustansya kundi malimpyo man nga pagkaon,” said City Sanitation Inspector Marlow Buenacosa.
During the seminar, parents learned about food-borne illnesses and other hazards posed by unsanitary food practices and poor personal hygiene.
The program orientation and food handling seminar in Tina Elementary School kicked off the series of seminars for BLT parents in six school beneficiaries this year.
In each school, 40 wasted and severely wasted Grade 1 & 2 pupils were selected for BLT. They will be fed for 120 school days starting on August 4, 2014.
Parents of these pupils will cook the lunch meals with the assistance of school teachers and the BLT school coordinator. Parents, the BLT school coordinator, and the school head compose BLT school teams. Hence, the city government of Tacurong emphasizes that food safety must be of primary concern of every school team.
The same of seminar will be conducted in Lourdes Pama Elementary School (LPES) and Josue Alcasid Central School (JACS) on July 24; in Ma. A. Montilla Memorial Elementary School (MAMMES) and in J. Hector Lacson Elementary School on July 25; and in Dr. Manuel J. Griño Memorial Central Elementary School on July 30.
Cooking and eating utensils are provided to these schools by partner groups and agencies. The LGU BLT Team headed by Councilor Psyche Sucaldito provides the ingredients and weekly menu. This program is funded by LGU-Tacurong City and Jollibee Group Foundation. Groups and individuals who are willing to sponsor children for this program are also very welcome. A sponsor only needs to donate P1,440.00 to feed one BLT pupil for 120 days.
LGU Tacurong became a BLT local implementing partner in 2013 with only four school beneficiaries. BLT was conceived by Jollibee Group Foundation in 2007. (LGU Tacurong City Information)
