PO1 Analyn Lorenzana of the Sultan Kudarat Provicial Police Office donated blood and hair during the Tacurong Blood and Hair Donors’ Day on May 19, 2016.
She was among the 213 volunteers who supported the activity. Volunteers included students, employees, teachers, police personnel, and members of the Philippine Army. Of the 213 volunteers, 174 donated blood while 39 donated hair.
“Sa pag-donate ng dugo, alam ko nakakatulong ako..this is not my first time to donate blood. Pero first time kong magdonate ng buhok,” said Lorenzana who grew her hair for four years after undergoing police training that required her to don a flat top haircut.

Hair donations will be forwarded to the Cuts Against Cancer Foundation to be used as materials for wigs that will be given to cancer survivors. Hair Donors’ Day, conducted in partnership with Makasining Lahi, started in 2015.

Blood Donors’ Milestone
“We are on the fifth year of observing the Blood Donors’ Day. we encourage volunteerism and healthy lifestyle. One must live healthy to be able to donate quality blood that will save lives,” said Councilor Psyche M. Sucaldito.
This annual blood donation drive was institutionalized through Ordinance 06-2011 sponsored by Councilor Sucaldito in 2011. This is the LGU’s response to the call for advocacy and promotion of voluntary blood donation, recruitment and retention of voluntary blood donors. The LGU also promotes healthy lifestyle through this activity conducted in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross. The donors’ day is also serves as a tribute to Mayor Lina O. Montilla who celebrates her birthday every 19th of May.
“People usually send material gifts on my birthday. However, I would really be more thankful if they donate blood on Blood Donors’ Day. It is the greatest gift they can give me,” said Mayor Montilla. (Jez Billano-Fabreag, LGU Tacurong City Information)
